The mission of the Berkeley Bicycle Club’s Junior Program is to foster local amateur bike racing.

All riders between the age of 14-18 are welcome to join as juniors. Every perk of club membership is available to you as a member.

  • Teaching young riders the importance of sportsmanship, attitude, and teamwork is crucial to any youth cycling program.

  • Foster a healthy community by encouraging active living and regular exercise.

Our juniors routinely participate in a wide range of programs designed to help them develop fundamental skills, bike control, and fitness as well as prepare them for more advanced competition. Junior's group ride details can be found here.

  • Weeknight rides are done for now.  Encroaching darkness means we are done with the regular Wednesday and Thursday rides.  Thanks to all who attended over the summer.  It's been a pleasure watching the kids improve!

  • Sunday Jr. rides meet at 10:00 AM in the Orinda BART East Lot.

  • Juniors are encouraged to check out the Saturday Marin Ride.

Additionally, juniors are welcome to attend the regular group ride. Intermediate Sunday Ride, Saturday Marin Ride, Sunday Advanced Recovery Ride, and Introductory Sunday Ride. Our ride leaders are Safe Sport certified.

Cycling can be a fantastic sport. There are several advantages to putting your kids on bicycles, whether they want to ride for fun with friends, commute to school, or compete in races.

Thank You

Thanks to Todd Edmeister's direction, our junior program has been a huge success. A special thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this program a success, including Christina S, Hussein S, Todd B, and Nate English, and everyone else who contributed.

Many people, including OT, Dan Leverton, Mike Conway, Robert B, Brian G, Jen R and others, contribute to the success of the local high school mountain bike teams.

The Berkeley Omnium is a race that raises money only for the benefit of future athletes. The proceeds from the races will benefit the mountain biking programs at Berkeley High, El Cerrito High, Albany High, and Oakland Composite High.

From Paul C.

The interns reminded me of the two juniors, Oliver and Gunnar, who joined us for our 3rd Sunday Intermediate Ride.  While both of them are new to the road they confided that they love the thrill of going fast downhill on the dirt. I'm too old to try something new and am sure the jarring and rattling will lead to an early demise to my already frail body. It was great having Oliver's dad Brian along on the ride as it has been decades since Brian and Jen were active members of the BBC. Having young cyclists grace us with their presence injects a bit of freshness into our club which is both encouraging and promising at the same time.
