A special milestone for the 2025 Berkeley Hills Road Race, presented by Expert Tree Service.

Berkeley Bike Club made "official" our donation to the four beneficiaries of the 2025 Berkeley Hills Road Race, presented by Expert Tree Service. The beneficiaries are four East Bay NICA high school mountain bike teams: Berkeley High School, Albany, El Cerrito, and Oakland Composite. We donated a whopping $21,000 to the four teams, with the funds deposited into team accounts at Stay True Cycles, our shop sponsor in downtown Berkeley. Among other things, the funds can be used by by teams to maintain loaner bikes they make available to kids who don't have a fancy mountain bike.

We are also profoundly grateful for the generous support of our other sponsors:

Paul Hainsworth put the call out to the coaches of the four teams to come down for a photo shoot, and the delivered! A solid turnout today of members from all four teams rolled up at 630pm sharp. Coach Nick, who doubles as both the owner of Stay True and the head coach of BHS's mtn bike team, did a great job corralling the kids for the photos.

We will use the photos in our sponsorship and promotional materials as the race committee kicks off fundraising for the 2026 Berkeley Omnium. Our dates are the Berkeley Hills Road Race on Saturday, April 18, 2026 and the Berkeley Streets Criterium on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Please consider volunteering! Fun fact: 2026 will be our 70th edition of BHRR! Let's make it a day to remember!

A big shout-out to Christopher Lee who created "the big check" you see in the attached photos. Thanks Chris!

Another shout-out to Nick Hardtail for hosting the kids today at his store and for his longstanding commitment to bringing up the next generation of racers in his role as head coach at the Berkeley High School Mountain Bike Team!

A special thank you as well to Brian Gates, owner of Expert Tree Service, whose generous $10K sponsorship donation this year at BHRR almost doubled our contribution to the NICA teams.

And of course a huge thank you to your race organizers, Ka Chan, Jason Tang, and the 100+ volunteers who pulled off another miracle with a fantastic Berkeley Hills Road Race in 2025.

We’re starting the push now for the 2026 Berkeley Omnium to bring on new sponsors to grow the impact of bicycle races and continue supporting youth cycling in the Bay Area. If you or your company want to be part of something meaningful, helping develop the next generation of riders, let’s talk.
